AFZ Workshop

Labuan Financial Services Authority (Labuan FSA) and the Islamic Development Bank Institute (IsDBI), in partnership with Inclusive Resource Management (IRM), have successfully concluded a comprehensive two-day technical workshop titled “Exploring a Potential Awqaf Free Zone (AFZ) Pilot in Labuan.” The technical workshop sought to critically evaluate the prospective implementation of an AFZ pilot framework within the Labuan International Business and Financial Centre (Labuan IBFC). The sessions brought together prominent local and international experts, including key participation from Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azmi Omar, Chief Executive Officer of INCEIF University.

Throughout the two-day event, delegates deliberated on the foundational pillars required to support the initiative, focusing specifically on the proposed legal and regulatory frameworks, corporate governance structures, financial models, and operational pilot designs. The collaborative dialogues culminated in the successful identification of key areas requiring further technical assessment, establishing a clear pathway and strategic next steps toward developing the landmark socio-economic Islamic finance initiative.
